Bravo renews In the City for a second season, according to Variety, and the network has also renewed Next Gen NYC and Southern Hospitality. The renewals were announced ahead of Bravo Fan Fest in Charleston, South Carolina, this weekend.
Bravo also placed two new series in production. They are Next Gen Atlanta and Charmed by a Southern Monster, which Variety calls the network’s first scripted microdrama. The timing lines up with the Fan Fest event, where several cast members are on the panel schedule.
Will the Summer House cast be back for In the City?
Variety reports that no cast has been announced for any new or returning unscripted show. Still, Kyle Cooke and Lindsay Hubbard are expected to return, since both are on the Fan Fest panel lineup. In the City is a spinoff of Summer House, which Variety says became a cultural sensation in its 10th season. Filming has already begun in New York City.
Amanda Batula has not been filming and is not expected to return as a full-time cast member, though Variety notes she could eventually film scenes with Kyle. West Wilson, who appeared in Season 1, has not filmed either. Variety adds that he was recently cast in the Netflix competition series Million Dollar Secret.
Truly Original, a Banijay America company, produces In the City, with Steven Weinstock and Glenda Hersh among its executive producers. The show follows a group of New Yorkers through marriage, separation, parenthood and reinvention.
Southern Hospitality finished its fourth season in June. Fans within the Bravo community had worried that the cast was not posting summer selfies together, a sign the show has traditionally been in production over those months. Variety says the renewal answers that concern, although the cast is still in flux.
Leva Bonaparte, who appeared on Southern Charm, has been central to the show because her Charleston restaurant, Republic, serves as its base of operations. In an Instagram reply, she told fans she is moving on from the series, as Variety reports.
“moving on to a new chapter in my life,” Leva Bonaparte said in an Instagram reply, as Variety reports.
She also said she appreciated her time on the show but that it is no longer serving her. She and her husband, Lamar Bonaparte, are still listed as executive producers. Variety points to the Fan Fest lineup for clues about the rest of the cast: Joe Bradley, Maddi Reese, Michols Peña, Mia Alario, Bradley Carter and TJ Dinch are all panelists.
Next Gen NYC, a word-of-mouth hit over the summer during its second season, has been renewed and is already in production. No cast has been announced, but Gia Giudice and Ava Dash are on the Fan Fest lineup, and Variety expects most of the cast to return. Truly Original also produces the series.
The network’s decision to order Next Gen Atlanta suggests the franchise format is working for Bravo. Variety expects the new show to mix the children of Bravolebrities with the offspring of well-known Atlanta figures. The series is set in a city where hip-hop, sports and entertainment shape the social scene, and Blink 49 Studios produces it.
Charmed by a Southern Monster launches Monday, Nov. 9, exclusively on the Peacock mobile app. Craig Conover, a lawyer and storyteller who is also an original cast member of Southern Charm, plays Hunter Caldwell opposite Nicole Mattox as Maeve Marchant, an actor well known in microdramas.
According to Variety’s description, Maeve is a corporate fixer sent to win over a man rumored to be a murderer so he will sell his family’s estate. The story blends soapy romance, workplace rivalry and small-town mystery, and it includes a billion-dollar development deal.
Micromaker and Haymaker East produce the microdrama, with Aaron Rothman, Josh Halpert and Jesse Light as executive producers and Caroline Bomback as co-executive producer. Lyla Trilling wrote it, and Yoraiia directed.
Haymaker East also produces Southern Hospitality, and Aaron Rothman, Josh Halpert and Jesse Light executive produce alongside Leva and Lamar Bonaparte. The show follows a circle of friends building their careers in Charleston’s hospitality scene.
Variety did not announce premiere dates for the renewed or newly ordered unscripted series. For now, the next firm date on the calendar is the Peacock launch of the microdrama on Nov. 9.
