Zendaya is set to star in an untitled sci-fi movie that Alex Garland will direct from his own script for A24, according to The Hollywood Reporter. It is the newest project she has taken on as her memorable year winds down, and it extends a working relationship with the studio that began with her HBO series Euphoria.

The film is expected to shoot in 2027. Plot details have not been disclosed, so the premise, the title and the rest of the cast remain unknown for now.

What is the Zendaya sci-fi movie about?

The reporting does not offer a story outline. What it does establish is the filmmaker, the studio and a 2027 shooting window. Anything beyond that would be guesswork, and the report does not go there.

Where Alex Garland and A24 stand

Garland has a long history with A24. His titles with the studio include Ex Machina, Civil War, Men and Warfare. His next film is a video game adaptation of Elden Ring, which is set for theatrical release in 2028.

Zendaya’s ties to the company are just as strong. Euphoria counted A24 as one of its producers, and she starred opposite Robert Pattinson in The Drama, a spring hit for the studio. This new sci-fi project is her latest collaboration with the company.

A busy 2026 for Zendaya

Her year has been packed. She co-starred with Tom Holland in Sony Pictures’ summer blockbuster Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which now stands as the highest-grossing film in domestic box office history.

She and Holland also appeared together in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey. That film became Universal’s highest-grossing release ever and is expected to draw plenty of attention during awards season. The pair also recently confirmed that they had secretly tied the knot.

On television, Zendaya earned an Emmy Award nomination this year for playing Rue in the third and final season of HBO’s acclaimed Euphoria. It is a notable recognition for a series that has now closed its run.

Her next big screen release is Dune: Part Three. She reprises her role as Chani in Denis Villeneuve’s film, which Warner Bros. releases in theaters in December.

Further down the line, Zendaya is attached to star as the late singer Ronnie Spector in Barry Jenkins’ biopic Be My Baby for A24. She will also voice the daughter of Shrek and Princess Fiona in DreamWorks Animation’s Shrek 5, which hits theaters next summer.

What comes next

The sci-fi project’s next concrete marker is its 2027 shoot. Before that, Dune: Part Three arrives in December, and Shrek 5 is set for theaters next summer. Garland’s Elden Ring adaptation is slated for 2028.
